Dubai rulers had launched Dubai Government Initiative 2021 about two years ago. One of the goals of the initiative is to make Dubai the smartest city on earth by 2021 and it’s right on track with different government projects around that.
But government cannot achieve this alone. Different stakeholders have to come together to achieve this goal and that’s what Startupbootcamp is trying to do with its Startupbootcmap Smart City Dubai program.
Startupbootcamp is a global network of industry-focused startup accelerators with operations in different cities all around the world including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Copenhagen, Miami, New York, Cape Town, Dubai, Istanbul, London, Chengdu, Rome and Mumbai.
With Startupbotocmap Smart City Dubai program, they aim to accelerate 40 innovative startups working in the fields of IoT and connectivity, urban automation and smart transportation, open city data, sustainable cities and living, smart government, and smart retail. Applications will be open to both MENA based startups and startups from all over the world.
To make the accelerator a success, they have some amazing local and international partners from both governement and private sector. Some of the partners include Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body of Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), Dubai’s integrated Free Zone Technology Park, Smart Dubai Office, Dubai Chambers, Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC (du), Visa, Orange Business Services, Rochester Institute of Technology – New York and Rochester Institute of Technology – New York, the program is open for applications today.
Smart City Dubai Accelerator will select 10 promising startups in each cohort and provide them with office space in Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Center (DTEC), mentorship from subject matter experts and industry leaders, access to corporate partners, and $20,000 of capital investment. The selected startups will also have access to Startupbootcamp’s global network of mentors, investors & VCs. The program will last for three months.
Accelerator is led by Tedd OBrien, who has more than 20 years of extensive experience in sales, marketing, and developing technology companies across different industries.
“We are thrilled to announce our first Smart City program in the region in a joint effort with the Dubai government and other local partners. Startupbootcamp has worldwide momentum, accelerating now over 420 startups in 19 different programs globally since 2010. We are working with startups who are really making the future better and we know Dubai will take us to a new level.” said Todd.
