Almost nine months after launching the Amazon Global Store in UAE, Souq is now expanding it to Saudi Arabia. Launched last week, the Amazon Global Store allows customers in Saudi Arabia to buy over one million global products directly from Amazon in the United States.
The products are available in categories of apparel, handbags, shoes, watches, kitchen and home goods. The users can browse the products on the dedicated Amazon Global Store page on Souq but they will also be available across the website when users search for anything or browse a category, marked as ‘sold by Amazon Global Store’.
Souq will take care of the customs clearance, delivering products directly to customers’ door step. The customers have an option to pay using their local credit card or cash on delivery like any other purchases made on Souq. The delivery comes with two options, priority – that takes 2-5 business days and standard taking 6-10 business days. For most of the products, customers will also have the option to return and get a full refund within 30 days of purchase, said Souq in a statement.
Speaking about the move, Saleem Hammad, Souq’s General Manager for Saudi, said, “We are excited about making over one million popular products from Amazon available on SOUQ.com to customers. This brings global selection closer to our customers in the region, and we will continue to grow this further. We share the same vision as Amazon and focus on providing our customers with best-in-class selection, great prices, and a convenient shopping experience.”
Samir Kumar, Vice President of International Retail with Amazon, added, “When we acquired SOUQ.com, our goal was to provide the best possible service for millions of customers in the Middle East by supporting them with Amazon technology and global resources. Amazon Global Store is the first step of many in doing so, and represents Amazon’s confidence in the region and that our continued investment will provide customers with more of what they want – the largest selection combined with a reliable shopping experience that includes unique products and international brands from the US and beyond.”
Earlier this year Noon had teamed up with eBay to bring eBay’s selection of top global products to Noon’s customers in UAE & Saudi – the service was announced to go live in second half of 2018 but hasn’t launched yet.
