The investment comes from Faden Media, a Saudi-based  advertising company & France-based Publicis Group that’s one of the largest communications groups in the world.

Both the co-founders come from an advertising background with more than 15 years of experience between them which has certainly helped them raised investment from these companies.

“Both of us come from advertising and marketing backgrounds. Our investors were companies and people we worked with over the years and we had established great relationships with them before we launched Yumamia” Belal said, speaking to MENAbytes.

Investors trust Yumamia’s ability to help people change their lifestyle and behavior towards healthy eating.

“Innovation, creativity and agility are the most important pillars we look at when investing in digital businesses. Yumamia team prove to us -as investors- that they have what it takes to craft distributive business models that can change behaviors and lifestyles.” said Rayyan Jamjoum, Vice President of Channels & Markets Development at Faden Media.

Yumamia plans to use this investment for further expansion in Cairo and for regional expansion to Saudi & UAE. They’ll start of with Riyadh early next year and launch in Jeddah later. The timing for UAE launch would be decided after seeing the response in Saudi. Currently with the team of 18, the startup also also has plans to expand to other Egyptian cities including Alexandria after Saudi & UAE launch.

“With a strong presence in Saudi Arabia, Faden Media is the ideal partner as we continue to scale our business regionally,” said Belal El Borno, Co-Founder & CEO of Yumamia. “We’re excited to have a partner on board that provides us not only capital, but also strategic & local experience in KSA market.”

Apart from expansion, Yumamia plans to spend the investment on development and further improvement of their technology with different new features in the pipeline.

It is the third Egyptian startup in food vertical to raise an investment this year. Earlier, Mumm & Elmenus have raised $200,000 & 1.5 million respectively.
