Cairo-based investment platform Thndr has raised $15.7 million in a funding round led by global tech investor Prosus, with participation from Y Combinator, BECO Capital, Endeavor Catalyst, JIMCO, Raba, and Onsi Sawiris. The round brings the company’s total funding to $37.76 million.
The Egyptian startup also unveiled two new products that signal its expansion beyond basic trading services. Thndr Alpha is a guided investing experience designed for first-time investors, featuring portfolios tailored to individual goals and risk appetites with a mix of local and global asset classes including stocks, gold, and fixed income. ThndrX is a professional-grade desktop platform built for serious traders, emphasizing speed, precision, and performance.
“Thndr is no longer just giving people access to the market, we’re helping them build long-term wealth, guided by intelligence and powered by local relevance,” said Ahmad Hammouda, co-founder and CEO of Thndr. “This is the next chapter for fintech in the region.”
The company also announced it is pursuing an asset management license in Egypt, which would enable it to launch and manage its own financial products designed specifically for regional investors, rather than relying on repackaged foreign instruments.
Founded in 2020 by Ahmad Hammouda and Seif Amr, Thndr has positioned itself as a mobile-first, low-commission digital investment platform serving users across the Middle East. The platform has seen rapid growth, with 87% of its user base comprising first-time investors and 40% coming from rural areas, according to previous company data.
Last year, Thndr expanded its services to the UAE after acquiring a Category 3A license with retail endorsement from the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA).
The fresh capital will support product expansion and regulatory growth as Thndr deepens its user base and broadens its service offerings across the MENA region. The funding round underscores continued investor confidence in fintech opportunities within the Middle East’s underserved investment market, where investor penetration remains below 3% across the region.
