Saudi’s Miran merges with Egypt’s Welnes to build regional health and wellness platform

Saudi-based fitness app Miran has merged with Egyptian wellness platform Welnes to create a comprehensive health and fitness solution combining AI-driven technology with personalized coaching services, the companies announced yesterday.

Founded in 2017, Miran offers workout tracking, exercise libraries, and personalized fitness programs. The app provides users with tailored workout routines and diet plans, through both a free version and a $16-per-month subscription, with an emphasis on easy-to-use interfaces and offline workout libraries.

Egyptian startup Welnes, launched in 2020, connects users with professional nutritionists and trainers who provide customized meal and workout plans. Having raised $300,000 since its founding, Welnes has built a community-focused platform for both fitness professionals and health-conscious users.

“By joining forces, we’re creating a holistic health and fitness experience that leverages advanced technology while fostering a supportive community,” said Amr Saleh, who will serve as CEO of the newly merged entity which will have its headquarters in Riyadh.

The merger was led by a prominent Saudi angel investor who is a member at Doroob VC. Prior to the deal, Welnes had secured backing from notable investors including Flat6Labs, Samurai Incubate, UI Investments, and several angel investors.

The combined platform aims to offer users the best of both worlds: Miran’s technology-driven approach featuring workout tracking and AI-generated plans, complemented by Welnes’ network of professional trainers and nutritionists providing personalized guidance.

The merged company will maintain its focus on the Saudi market while potentially expanding its reach across the Middle East region. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
