Djamel Mohand, Chief Operating Officer of Foodics, the leading restaurant management platform in the Middle East & North Africa, has announced his departure from the company after nearly five years to launch his own startup.
He announced the decision in a LinkedIn post earlier today, ” After almost 5 years of an historical journey it is time for me to leave my role as Chief Operating Officer at Foodics. Helping scale this KSA-made venture to now serve more than 30k restaurants in 25+ countries was a truly unique experience.”
During his tenure, he managed over 2,000 team members and played a key role in Foodics’ growth and expansion. While Mohand hasn’t shared details about his new venture, he said that he will continue supporting Foodics with its strategy and M&A activities.
Foodics recently announced that it has earmarked $100 million for M&A over the next three years. The company also announced the acquisition of UK-based self-ordering platform Solo last week, along with investments in three startups.
Before joining Foodics, Mohand moved to Saudi Arabia in 2015 to work with Rocket Internet on Jeeny (previously known as Easy Taxi) and left the company as COO in 2019. He later served as Managing Director for Saudi at Kitopi, helping the cloud kitchen operator launch in the market.
Foodics, founded in 2014, is the leading SaaS and fintech platform in F&B sector of the region. The company is formally licensed as a fintech by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) and offers a comprehensive cloud-based POS system for restaurant management.
Since its inception, Foodics has processed over 6 billion orders and raised $170 million in its Series C round, positioning it as one of the most promising SaaS companies in the MENA region.
The platform serves various segments within the F&B sector, including traditional restaurants, cafés, quick service restaurants, bakeries, food trucks, cloud kitchens, and non-food micro-retailers.
