DHL acquires minority stake in Saudi logistics company Ajex

DHL Ecommerce has acquired a minority stake in Saudi Arabian parcel logistics company Ajex, marking its expansion into the Kingdom’s rapidly growing e-commerce parcel market, the companies announced today.

The financial details and the exact size of the stake were not disclosed.

The deal represents DHL Eommerce’s first entry into Saudi Arabia, where it will join other DHL Group divisions that have been operating in the country since the 1970s. The company has also secured an option to increase its interest to a majority stake in the future.

Ajex, which began operations in 2021 as part of Ajlan & Bros Holding, has quickly established itself as a leading parcel service provider in Saudi Arabia. The company employs 1,500 team members and operates over 50 facilities with a fleet of more than 900 vehicles for domestic parcel processing and delivery.

Pablo Ciano, CEO of DHL Ecommerce, said, “As a key component of our corporate Strategy 2030 ‘Accelerate Sustainable Growth’ we are focusing on markets like Saudi Arabia that exhibit significant growth dynamics and strong economic development. Together, leveraging our international expertise in parcel operations, we will deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable delivery solutions.”

The partnership aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which identifies logistics as one of its key growth pillars. The growing e-commerce market in Saudi Arabia is driving expansion in the domestic parcel sector at double-digit rates.

Ajlan Bin Mohammed Al Ajlan, Group Managing Director of Ajlan & Bros Holding, which owns Ajex, said, “By partnering with DHL Ecommerce, a globally trusted e-commerce specialist, we will be well-positioned to meet [the rising demand] in the future.”

Following the acquisition, AJEX will continue to lead the business in partnership with DHL Ecommerce, which will contribute its expertise in the international parcel sector and have representation on the management board.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals.
