Tunisia’s Dabchy raises over $1 million pre-Series A to grow its preloved fashion marketplace

Tunisia-based circular fashion marketplace Dabchy has raised fresh funds in a pre-Series A round led by Janngo Capital, with participation from US-based Renew Capital and Village Capital, along with angel investors including InstaDeep’s founder Karim Beguir, it announced on Tuesday. It didn’t share the exact size of the deal but said it was a seven-figure USD round.

Founded in 2016 by Ameni Mansouri, Ghazi Ketata, and Oussama Mahjoub, Dabchy operates a second-hand fashion marketplace that has grown to over 1.3 million users across Tunisia and Egypt. The platform, which currently serves more than 10% of Tunisia’s population, has recently expanded its offerings to include new categories like men’s fashion, home goods, sports equipment, books, and games.

The startup plans to use the funds to accelerate its expansion across the Middle East & North Africa by 2026, with a particular focus on the Egyptian market. The investment will also go towards improving its logistics capabilities and enhancing the overall user experience.

Ameni Mansouri, CEO and co-founder of Dabchy, said, “This funding will help us accelerate our growth, improve the experience for our users and strengthen our presence in North Africa and the Middle East. Our mission is clear: to revolutionize circular e-commerce by combining sustainability and financial performance.”

Fatoumata Bâ, Founder and Executive Chair of Janngo Capital, commenting on the investment, said, “The apparel sector represents approximately 20% of Tunisia’s GDP, and 80% of the jobs created benefit women. Dabchy is a true pioneer in driving the sustainable transformation of the apparel industry, enabling growth while enhancing economic, social, and environmental impact.”

The company, which takes inspiration from platforms like Vinted, is positioning itself to capitalize on Africa’s significant second-hand market, where 80% of clothing and footwear purchases come from second-hand sources.
