AmazonBasics, Amazon’s equivalent of a store brand that sells affordable products is now available on Souq.com. The news was announced by Souq.com’s CEO Ronaldo Mouchawar in a Facebook post.
Launched in 2009, the brand sells a lot of stuff, ranging from batteries to kitchen products and more. However for now, Souq.com has only 72 products available from this in-house Amazon brand in UAE & Saudi. These products include different types of cables, travel accessories, backpacks, cases, and sleeves. In Egypt, the website currently shows only two products from AmazonBasics.
The prices are pretty reasonable with some of the items on Souq.com being sold at cheaper-than-Amazon.com’s prices, like this backpack which is listed on Souq.com for AED 59 (or $15.73) when it sells on Amazon.com for $17.99. If that was not enough, Souq.com is currently offering a limited discount of 25% (upto AED 75) in UAE for any AmazonBasics purchase.
Availability of AmazonBasics on Souq.com is a great news for consumers in the region, not so much for the retailers though, as the brand has been in news lately for copying best products available on Amazon.com and selling them for less which eventually affects the sales of different retailers on the website. .
We’ve reached out to Souq.com to learn more details about AmazonBasics and will update this post if we hear back from them.
